Squatting As Nature Intended

What do you see when an adolescent child tries to pick up a toy on the ground? What do you see when they try to carry something off the ground? It is very interesting to see how a child can perform tasks like squatting or kneeling to pick up or carry something, compared to a mature adult, what will you see when an adult attempts to pick up or carry something? If you have not guessed it, the typical adult will most likely bend over, hunch, slouch, etc. Not only is that bad for the back, but it makes me wonder how we grew up to adapt to do something such as bending over instead of squatting.

With that insight being thrown out there. My favorite exercise will be the squat. I was not a fan of the squat for the simple fact that I was intimidated by it. The thought of the shear load of heavy weights on my back will someday pull me down with it once I execute the lift. Yes, the heavy weights did pull me down, but it was through that failure that made me strive to get better and eventually complete the lift that pulled me down with ease.

Just like many exercises, the squat has it’s benefits when performing it. Everyone can simply search, “What are the benefits of the squat?”, and find many articles about it. So instead of giving you information that you can simply look up, I will give you my personal opinion on what I think about the squat. The squat is in simply an exercise, it is a body movement that we should be doing everyday. The movement makes it easier to carry or pick up things. When incorporated into an exercise routine it becomes one of the demanding exercises that anyone can perform. With that being said, since it is more demanding it requires your body to put in an all out effort to complete the lift. This means that the squat is a total body exercise, even when performed incorrectly you will feel it all over. With the demand this exercise needs, anyone seeking to lose body fat, gain muscle, or both will see results from this exercise. There are so much more that goes into the squat to make it beneficial. All I can say is to give the exercise a try, below is a link on how to prepare and execute the squat.
